About

Who We Are

annetteBUD is a nonprofit organization of compassionate, comprehensive, qualified professionals who work to educate parents to improve the lives of children with learning disabilities. When a child is first identified as a student in need of services, many parents have no knowledge of the process until they receive a parent handbook during each individualize education plan (IEP) meeting. The parent handbook is often written in a language unfamiliar to most parents. Parents are often overwhelmed by this meeting because it is not like a familiar parent-teacher conference. The meeting includes many educational professionals (administrator, reg. ed. teacher, spec ed. teacher, therapists, counselor, psychologist, etc.

BUD was established in 2012 to advocate for and empower parents to seek the necessary services for their children upon initial identification of a learning disability.

What We Do

When parents turn to BUD for help, they are assured of receiving the support and encouragement to persevere through the special education process. Parents become advocates for their children because they have gained the knowledge and language of the legalities that govern the special education process.

BUD provides on going information sessions to ensure parents understand the special education process from initial identification to graduation. BUD help parents understand their rights according to The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act 2004 (IDEA). IDEA governs how states and public agencies provide early intervention, special education and related services to more than 6.5 million eligible infants, toddlers, children and youth with disabilities (United States Department of Education).

BUD will provide parents with skills to seek services to better support their children. The nonprofit organization will also make available on going informational sessions to explain updates to IDEA 2004 and educate parents on the available resources to further their understanding of the special education process.

Our Mission

Our mission is to enhance the lives of children, with learning disabilities, by promoting advocacy and by providing a platform that educates parents on their rights and available resources.

Our Goal

Our goal is to assist parents in becoming the #1 advocate for their child with a learning disability.
